Sizing: pattern is written for a one size scarf that will fit most adults. The pattern is written so that the scarf increases in size with each row, so you can customize to make the scarf bigger or smaller and thus could easily be adapted to children's sizes.
You will need:
Approx. 600 yds of size 4 (worsted weight) yarn. (I used just less than 3 skeins of Lion Brand Heartland) and approx. 100 yards of yarn in same color or contrasting color for tassels.
Size L/8mm crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle
Tape measure
Stitch marker (optional -- but recommended!)
Stitches to know:
Single crochet (sc)
Half double crochet (hdc)
Double crochet (dc)
Special stitch: Picot single crochet (psc) Instructions and photo tutorial for this stitch included in pattern.
