Gauge and Sizing:
This pattern is written to be fully customizable to your own measurements. The pattern includes suggested measurements to create adult sizes S (34-36” hip circumference), M (38”-40”), L (42”-44”), 1X (46”-48”), 2X (”50-52”), 3X (54”-56”), 4X (58”-60”) and 5X (62”-64”) as well as tips to customize the size of your garment to fit perfectly. I write my patterns this way to give you the creative freedom to make your garment to fit your own size and style preferences.

The design is created with a slouchy, casual fit and a wide-leg pant. The pattern begins with a waistband with 0-2” positive ease (in relation to hip measurement, not waist measurement). This ensures that the overalls can fit over the wearer’s hips; the drawstring will allow it to be cinched to fit the waist. My sample was made with about 0” ease, meaning that the circumference of the waistband matches my hip measurement (40”). You can follow the suggested measurements for your closest size, or customize the measurements to create your preferred fit.

Because the pattern focuses on measurements throughout, your gauge will not impact your sizing, so feel free to experiment with hook sizes to achieve your preferred fabric. If you plan to block your garment, plan for a slight increase in measurements after blocking, particularly in length as the weight of the finished overalls will cause them to stretch lengthwise. To account for growth that may happen, fully wet block your swatch and observe how the fabric stretches. Adjust measurements as you work the pattern accordingly.
